After COVID-19 emerged in Canada, we saw many examples of governments cutting red tape to help businesses and consumers. One measure that was adopted across the country – at least temporarily – was the decision to allow restaurants to sell alcohol with takeout and delivery orders. Our poll showed Canadians found this new policy useful and think it should become a permanent new option for consumers (64% in favour). In the video above, Winnipeg restaurant owner Tony Siwicki explains how his restaurant benefited from governments cutting red tape and allowing alcohol sales with delivery and takeout orders: “It worked out good, we’re selling wine and beer and coolers with pretty much 10% of orders. That little bit of money paid for employees, it paid for lights, gas, the vendors that we owed money to. $100 here, $200 there, every little bit helped us.” To see our new red tape report – click here
