Policy Brief: Investigating the Chinese Government’s Harassment of Chinese-Canadians
A new SecondStreet.org policy brief examines instances of Chinese-Canadians, Canadians from Hong Kong, and members of other groups being targeted and harassed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
A survey was completed by 26 respondents who claimed to have been targeted. Several shocking stories were shared – from threatening phone calls, to tires being slashed, to family members in China being threatened by police.
This is a problem that policymakers should take seriously. Options like a foreign agent registry, transparency laws, and increased law enforcement could help.
