Jenny’s long wait for health care
Recently, SecondStreet.org sat down with Jenny Mckenzie, a retired senior citizen in British Columbia, to talk about her health care problems.
In the Spring of 2018, while walking with a friend, Jenny began to experience severe pain in her hip. She later visited her doctor and was referred to a specialist for treatment. Incredibly, despite scoring just 11 out of 48 on the government’s test to determine the severity of her situation, Jenny was told that she could have to wait as long as 2020 for treatment.
Prior to her hip problems, Jenny was an active member of society – she exercised regularly, frequently went out with friends and enjoyed traveling. Now she is living in constant pain, walks with crutches and struggles with daily tasks such as putting on her socks and picking up her grandchildren. Today, Jenny is largely confined to her apartment.
