STORY: Trip to Ireland Showcases Innovative Health Care Policy
Canada isn’t the only country in the world with problems in its universal health care system. But unlike some others, governments here seem reluctant to try creative, innovative ways to get patients the care they need.
That’s why I went to Ireland in the summer of 2024.
I’d read about the Cataract Express Bus. It’s a cool program where they had been sending patients from Ireland up to Northern Ireland (in the UK ‒ a different country) on a bus to get cataract surgery.
So, I got in touch with Michael Collins, the local politican who had set the program up. He invited me to come see it for myself.
