- Government data obtained from the four Atlantic provinces shows several cases where patients have a high volume of doctor visits
CALGARY, AB:
Think tank SecondStreet.org released new Freedom of Information responses from the four Atlantic provinces today, revealing several cases where patients have a high volume of appointments with doctors in a single year – many with weekly appointments. SecondStreet.org is urging the Atlantic provinces to investigate these cases further to see if any abuse of the health system is taking place.
“Most patients and doctors are probably pretty ethical when it comes to the health system,” said SecondStreet.org President Colin Craig. “But we do hear anecdotes of both taking advantage of the system. The question is, how often is abuse happening in the system? A review could help answer that question. If the government does find abuse, and addresses it, it could redirect resources to those who can’t access care right now.”
