In this installment of SecondStreet.org’s “Survivors of Socialism” series, we sat down with Mart Salumäe, a Toronto resident who grew up in Estonia under the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR).
Imagine having to wear a pair of shoes that your father hand-made and passed down from your older siblings, because it’s nearly impossible to buy shoes. That’s just one of the stories Mart Salumae discusses about his time growing up in the USSR.
